A Celebration of The History of Manchester’s Waterfront – The Cultural Heart

Come join us as we celebrate the rich history of Manchester-by-the-Sea’s geographic and cultural heart, the harbor waterfront, on April 14th at The Landing at 7 Central from 5:30-8 pm.

Manchester has long been known as a unique village among towns on Cape Ann. People from literally across the nation recognize the small town for its historic homes, exceptional beaches, relaxed life style, and, of course, beautiful harbor and waterfront.

To celebrate the harbor which has brought so much vitality and enjoyment to both residents and visitors alike, The Landing at 7 Central, the Manchester Historical Society, and Cape Ann TV have joined together to create a fun and informative evening. The event will feature the evolution of the waterfront, as captured in a unique Manchester Historical Society series of photographic placards. The different views of the waterfront chronicle the growth of important facets of this life-giving resource and include historical and current photos of such landmarks as The Manchester Yacht Club, Masconomo Park, Smith’s Point, and Black Cove. Members of the Manchester Historical Society will be on hand to add to the information displayed on the placards and guide people through the various scenes.

John Huss, curator of the Manchester Historical Society will deliver a brief overview of some very unique, rarely viewed, artifacts from the Trask House, one of Manchester’s most beloved landmarks at 6:30 pm. And, at 7 pm, Gordon Abbott, author of Jeffrey’s Creek, will share some of his knowledge of important historical waterfront changes. Complementing the waterfront photo display and informative sessions will be music performed Gid’s Giddy Gang. The popular local band, led by Gid Loring, is well known its lively performances at Red, White, and Blue charity Pancake Breakfast; Manchester and Beverly Farms July 4th parades; and many other important local events.

The event, a fund raiser for CATV, will run from 5:30-8 pm at The Landing, 7 Central Street, downtown. Admission price of $15 per person will include a delicious dinner; the exhibits and speaking sessions; and lively music and fun. This event is being made possible through the generous sponsorship of The Landing at 7 Central, and the support of the Manchester Historical Society and Gid’s Giddy Gang. Come join us as we celebrate the history of the heart of Manchester-by –the-Sea.
